Stein's candidacy pushes the system to reconsider and hopefully recalibrate to genuinely represent the people rather than default decisions crafted behind closed political doors.

I fully understand that this endorsement will not impact the immediate electoral outcome, and I am more than aware of my limited reach.

However, this is about planting seeds for broader reform, advocating for a political landscape that values progress, honesty, and accountability.

This choice is about seeking change within the political landscape because continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results won't yield the progress we so desperately need. • Gradual Implementation: Companies will have five years to phase in this ownership through profit-sharing, stock contributions, or direct equity grants. If they can't achieve this within five years, the free market should reassess their viability. Lack of worker representation often indicates an imbalanced and unhealthy relationship.
• Union Approval for Stock Buybacks: Require majority union approval for any stock buybacks, ensuring decisions align with workers' interests. After all, gold-plated parachutes can't save a company that's forgotten its workers.

Criminal Penalties for Union-Busting

Union suppression is a serious offense—and it should come with severe consequences. Union-busting must become a felony offense, with mandatory prison time for repeat offenders.

• Strict Enforcement: Executives and leadership at any level—whether directly involved or complicit in decisions like firing organizers, surveilling workers, or interfering with union efforts—will face criminal charges, significant fines, and public accountability.
• Public Accountability for Offenders: Individuals convicted of anti-union practices must disclose their violations to future employers and coworkers, similar to how other serious offenses require disclosure. This will ensure greater transparency and prevent habitual offenders from quietly continuing anti-union activities in other workplaces.
• Whistleblower Protections: Workers who report union-busting activities will receive complete legal protection from retaliation, ensuring they can come forward without fear of losing their jobs or facing other consequences.

Mandatory Union Education in Workplaces

Every worker should know their rights and have access to information about unionizing. "How to Unionize" posters should be displayed alongside federal labor law notices in every workplace.

Along with anti-harassment training, HR should remind you to complete Union 101 training—because it truly is for the best, even if those HR courses can sometimes be a bit tedious.

• Clear Guidance: These posters will outline the steps for forming or joining a union and explain worker protections under the law.
• Labor Department Oversight: Inspectors will verify compliance during routine audits.

Union Activity as a Protected Class

Union affiliation, activity, or discussion should be treated as a protected class. This ensures no worker can be fired, demoted, or retaliated against for participating in union organizing, bargaining, or strikes.

Federal Matching Funds for Strikes

Strikes are a powerful tool for workers, but they come with financial risks. Providing limited matching federal funds to pre-approved strikes won't break the bank and can offer essential support during these pivotal moments.

All publicly traded companies should be required to disclose executive compensation packages, including salaries, bonuses, stocks, and additional benefits. Reporting this data annually to the Department of Labor using existing payroll information will ensure transparency without adding new administrative burdens.

Currently, while some of this data appears in SEC filings, it's often reported every few months, making it easy for the public to overlook. We need compensation information to be transparent and timely, ensuring companies can't quietly approve significant CEO bonuses on a Friday afternoon. This level of transparency will hold companies accountable to both the public and the government regarding their compensation practices.

Yearly Compensation Reports for Larger Companies:

Companies with over 150 employees should be required to disclose anonymized data on employee compensation annually. This includes information such as age group, gender, metro area, job title, years of experience, as well as base and total compensation. This level of transparency makes any pay disparities visible, empowering the public and potential employees to make informed career decisions.

Submitting this information annually to the Department of Labor through existing payroll systems will minimize administrative burdens. By doing so, we can promote fair compensation practices and enhance transparency across the board.

Expected Outcomes

This plan is practical and actionable, set to drive real change in the current socio-economic landscape. Here's what we can expect:

This decades-long conflict is not just a regional issue—it’s a human rights crisis. Innocent civilians continue to bear the brunt of the violence, and a ceasefire is long overdue. However, stopping the violence alone won’t bring lasting peace. U.S. economic support—particularly the billions in aid to Israel—must be conditioned on genuine efforts to end the conflict and withdraw from internationally recognized occupied lands.

The Case for Change

America’s Role: The U.S. has long been Israel’s most prominent international supporter, providing approximately $17.9 billion annually in military aid since the war in Gaza began. This has been delivered with almost no strings attached despite Israel’s continued settlement expansions and actions that violate international law. America's unconditional support has allowed Israel to act with impunity, undermining the peace process and fueling ongoing violence.

Occupation and Human Rights: Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem, is widely condemned by the international community. UN Security Council Resolution 2334 reaffirms that these settlements are a “flagrant violation” of international law and have “no legal validity.” These actions are a significant roadblock to peace and must be addressed.

My Proposal

I propose a multi-pronged approach to not only stop the current violence but also lay the groundwork for lasting peace between Israel and Palestine. This requires bold steps and clear accountability.

1. Immediate Ceasefire and Return to Borders
   The first and most urgent step is to stop the bloodshed. I would call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, followed by a return to the internationally recognized borders. This is a basic humanitarian necessity, as both sides continue to escalate the violence at the cost of innocent lives.
   
2. Condition U.S. Aid on Withdrawal from Occupied Lands
   I support conditioning U.S. aid to Israel on its withdrawal from occupied Palestinian lands, as defined by the international community. If Israel fails to comply, it’s time for the U.S. to treat Israel as we do any other country that violates international law—whether that’s Russia, North Korea, or Cuba. This includes economic sanctions and restrictions on business and commerce until both sides are fully committed to negotiating a peace deal.
   
3. Contingent Economic Activity with the U.S.
   Beyond just aid, I propose that all economic activity between the U.S. and Israel be tied to peace efforts. Any trade or commerce with Israel is contingent on both parties actively working, in good faith, toward a peace agreement. If Israel (or Palestine) refuses to engage in good faith negotiations, they should face economic consequences that incentivize progress, not stalemate. Once Israeli publically traded companies get de-listed from NASDAQ, I think a solution will happen quickly.

Why This Will Work

The U.S. has leverage. America’s financial and military support has helped sustain Israel’s current posture, and it’s time we use this influence for good. By conditioning aid and economic ties on serious peace negotiations, we send a clear message: no more blank checks for endless war.

Whether you agree with it or not, the fact is that the United States of America is the world's police. As such, it is time for us to step up and start solving the humanitarian issues we face as a species. Human beings matter.

According to the Congressional Research Service, U.S. aid to Israel accounts for about 20% of Israel’s defense budget. Leveraging this aid can and will bring Israel to the table. Additionally, many in Palestine have expressed a willingness to negotiate, but Israel’s numerous “red lines” continue to be a stumbling block. A Lasting Peace, Not Just a Ceasefire

While stopping the violence is critical, it won’t fix the underlying tensions. After achieving a ceasefire, I would push for serious, good faith peace talks. These talks must result in a solution where both sides can live securely and independently.

A Fair Deal: 80% Solutions

No side will get everything they want, and that’s okay. In most negotiations, a compromise means each side walks away with around 80% of their ideal outcome. If both parties enter the process knowing they won’t achieve 100% of their goals, we can move forward with realistic expectations.

American Blind Spots

It’s time for American leadership to acknowledge that unconditional support for Israel has helped fuel this conflict. Israel’s actions, including its settlement expansions and military aggression, have been met with little to no consequences from the U.S. We need to change that. War crimes—whether committed by Israel or Hamas—are unacceptable, and U.S. policy should reflect that reality.

Moving Forward

I believe the region can find peace, but it will take international cooperation, economic pressure, and unwavering commitment to human rights. If Israel refuses to negotiate in good faith, they should be treated like any other state that refuses peace—isolated economically and politically. The same goes for Palestine.

It’s time for the U.S. to lead by example and push for a real solution—one that doesn’t just pause the fighting but addresses the root causes of this decades-long conflict. Without meaningful action now, we’ll find ourselves back in this same situation in a matter of months or years.

VIRGINIA, USA — In Virginia’s 8th District, Congressman Don Beyer is expected to cruise to another win to represent Northern Virginia. This campaign season he has participated in one official debate with his three challengers, but has declined to a second.

That led one of his opponents to an idea, create a Don-Bot to debate.

Bentley Hensel is running as an Independent in the 8th District. He knows he is a longshot to topple the five-term congressman.

Hensel told WUSA9, that Beyer will not participate in the next scheduled debate on October 17th but, Hensel wants another chance to challenge the incumbent anyway.

Being an engineer, I solved the problem the way I know how,” he smiled. “I built an A.I. of Don Beyer. A ‘Don Bot’ as they say.”

Hensel’s new debate opponent is straight out of the Artificial Intelligence world.  

“If he doesn't want to be there his policies can,” Hensel said. “It gives pretty accurate responses. When asked, ‘Should you vote for Bentley Hensel? It says, ‘No, you should vote for me, Don Beyer.’"

Hensel wrote the program using Open AI’s chat GPT. It’s a text-based bot. so the user inputs a question and the answers get pulled from Beyer’s campaign website and press releases.

“If you ask [the Bot], ‘Does a woman have the right to an abortion? It responds, ‘Absolutely!’ And it includes a link to his website. I tried to be really unbiased and actually represent him accurately.”

At the next debate, Hensel plans on having these responses play out in audio.

So is this whole ‘Don Bot’ legal?

We reached out to several elections law experts and the consensus we got was there isn’t much Congressman Beyer can do to stop the debate between the remaining candidates and the Don Bot.

But one company has tried.

“I tackled a Hornet's Nest apparently and Open AI has decided to ban my accounts,” he said

As a result, the Don Bot was shut down Wednesday morning.

But not for long, Hensel is building a new Don Bot using his own resources because he is determined to debate Don.

“I got in this race to talk about some issues and actually show that you can make a difference and actually the solutions to these major problems our country is facing really aren't that hard,” he said.

We reached out to Don Beyer’s office and campaign. They have not responded to our request for comments about the Don Bot.

However, in an article with Reuters, Beyer’s staff commented: 

“He continues to be a leading voice in Congress on the need to improve artificial intelligence regulation, including legislation to prevent nefarious actors from utilizing AI to spread election misinformation."

Financial transparency shouldn't depend on when or if an elected official decides to report. I propose an app that elected officials must connect to all their financial accounts, automatically reporting the required information to the House Ethics Committee in real-time. This system would expose insider trading and corruption as soon as it happens.

Additionally, we must overhaul the financial disclosure system to make public data easily accessible, removing the barriers that currently hide essential information. Transparency builds trust and prevents corruption, ensuring leaders are accountable and act in everyone's best interest.

I’m interested in committees that align with my platform and help make it a reality, such as Technology Modernization, Government Reform, and Environmental Protection. My first job was selling peaches on my family farm when I was about 6. I continued that every summer until high school, when I worked as a bag boy at a country club. These early jobs taught me the value of hard work, customer service, and the importance of negotiating payment upfront—especially after my grandfather gave himself quite the discount and paid me with $2 bills. In high school, I also ran a small DJ business, happily taking Baby Boomers’ money in exchange for fueling their ’80s rock addiction.

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

I’ve struggled with ADHD my entire life, but in my late 20s, I learned how to turn it into a strength. Instead of letting it hold me back, I’ve figured out how to harness my focus and energy to improve my life and work.

What is your favorite book? Why?

I’m a massive fan of Tom Clancy’s Ryanverse series. I re-read the series every few years and always buy the new books as they come out. The complex characters and intricate plots have inspired my interest in geopolitics and strategy, and I appreciate how Clancy’s work combines fiction with a deep understanding of real-world issues.

Our public transit system is failing, and the consequences are severe. For too long, we've allowed mismanagement and lack of transparency to undermine the efficiency and reliability of WMATA. It's time to face the hard truth: the system is broken, and our commuters are suffering. We need a transformative, revolutionary approach to public transportation that ensures every resident has access to safe, efficient, and affordable transit options.

An Urgent Need for Change

WMATA faces a massive budget shortfall, threatening service cuts and fare increases that will hit commuters hard. Facing a $750 million deficit, Metro is considering slashing services and raising fares. This is unacceptable. Our region depends on a reliable transit system—not one crippled by financial mismanagement and a lack of accountability.

In Northern Virginia, innovation and progress aren't just buzzwords—they're necessities. We can't afford to let our public transit lag behind. If the complexities of multiple state and DC governments can cooperate and find proper funding with integrated transit systems and modalities, we can set an example for the rest of the country—and the world. We should strive to make New York and Boston envy DC, not the other way around.

Moreover, if we're serious about stopping climate collapse, we must get behind public transportation in a big way. With DC's unemployment rate over 5% (Bureau of Labor Statistics ), why not put people to work building the best transit system imaginable?

It’s time to face the hard truth: the system is broken, and our students are suffering. The States Have Had Their Chance

Since Reagan, multiple education bills have shifted control to the states, but what have we gained? Declining test scores, widening achievement gaps, and millions of children left behind. The Fairfax County School District, Virginia’s largest, is a prime example of this failure. Fairfax public schools face a $100 million budget shortfall despite generating substantial tax revenue, putting teacher raises and quality education at risk. On the flip side, why should a student in a poor region of the country not have access to the same level of education as those in McLean?

It’s time for a sweeping federal overhaul that guarantees equitable, high-quality education for all students, regardless of their state or income level.

The Proposal: A Unified Federal Education System

First off, this is an optional plan. If a state chooses to not participate, their education will not change. Opt-in states are responsible for half the cost, and the federal government manages the rest. State boards of education are disbanded, and all education employees become federal employees, ensuring consistency and quality nationwide.

Massive Financial Savings for States

States that opt into this plan will save billions. Instead of maintaining broken systems and shouldering skyrocketing education costs, they’ll only be responsible for half the cost per student. For example, if the federal cost to educate a student is $20,000, states pay just $10,000. These savings can be reinvested in critical areas like healthcare, infrastructure, and public safety. Under this plan, school vouchers will no longer exist.

Empowered Teachers, Better Outcomes

Teachers and school staff become federal employees, benefiting from standardized pay, benefits, and training. However, all districts must meet federal baseline standards and abide by the same policies, ensuring that every student has access to the same opportunities, regardless of where they live.

This plan also addresses issues like those in Oklahoma, where state-mandated curricula clash with local values. By allowing regional control, we can respect local preferences while maintaining a unified standard of education across the country.

By decentralizing control from states to regions, we eliminate the inefficiencies and inequities plaguing our education system for decades. Local leaders who understand their communities' unique challenges and opportunities will have a greater say in shaping education. This system will also prevent power-tripping state legislators from imposing their beliefs on students and families who want no part of it.

• Massive Backlogs: With over 2.1 million pending cases in U.S. immigration courts, the average wait time for resolution is over 800 days—more than two years of uncertainty for individuals and families. The asylum backlog alone is over 1.5 million cases.
• Outdated Processes: Our system relies on disjointed, outdated processes spread across multiple agencies, making it difficult to track cases, communicate effectively, and resolve issues promptly.
• Processing Delays: USCIS processing times have skyrocketed, with delays increasing by 100-200% over the last decade, leaving individuals and families in limbo.

My Solution: A Modernized Immigration System

• What It Will Do: This platform will centralize case management, providing real-time tracking, secure communication, and document handling in one place. Immigrants, attorneys, and officials will have immediate access to case statuses, deadlines, and necessary actions.
• Why It Will Fix Things: By centralizing and modernizing the system, we reduce redundancy and errors, streamline communication, and ensure that cases move through the system more efficiently. Just as the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office reduced patent processing times by 25% through modernization, we can achieve similar gains in immigration case processing. How can we expect to work through the backlog when inadequate tools are in place?

2. Automate Metrics and Reporting

• What It Will Do: Automate data collection to identify and address inefficiencies in case processing times, backlogs, and system performance.
• Why It Will Fix Things: Automation will identify and address inefficiencies promptly, preventing small issues from becoming large backlogs. Following the example of Performance.gov, we must track performance metrics and report them so that we as a nation can act on them. We can't solve the problem if we don't know what the problem is.

3. Centralize Data

• What It Will Do: We must centralize all immigration data and information into a standardized, unified system. This means that all relevant data, from case statuses to processing metrics, will be accessible in one place.
• Why It Will Fix Things: Centralizing data will standardize information and ensure consistent access for all stakeholders. This approach allows immigration lawyers, officials, and the public to easily research and reference up-to-date, accurate metrics. By eliminating the need to navigate multiple obsolete systems, we can significantly reduce errors, improve efficiency, and make the immigration process more transparent and manageable.

The Bottom Line

A modern, centralized, and transparent immigration system isn’t just a technical upgrade—it’s a moral imperative. How the United States Immigration System Works

U.S. immigration law is very complex, and there is much confusion as to how it works. This fact sheet provides basic information about how the U.S. legal immigration system is designed.

The VA National Teleneurology Program (NTNP): Implementing Teleneurology to Improve Equitable Access to Outpatient Neurology Care - Journal of General Internal Medicine

Background Telehealth is increasingly utilized in many healthcare systems to improve access to specialty care and better allocate limited resources, especially for rurally residing persons who face unique barriers to care. Objectives The VHA sought to address critical gaps in access to neurology care by developing and implementing the first outpatient National Teleneurology Program (NTNP). Design Pre-post evaluation of intervention and control sites. Participants NTNP sites and VA control sites; Veterans completing an NTNP consult and their referring providers. Intervention Implementation of the NTNP at participating sites. Main Measures NTNP and community care neurology (CCN) volume of consults before and after implementation; time to schedule and complete consults; Veteran satisfaction. Key Results In FY2021, the NTNP was implemented at 12 VA sites; 1521 consults were placed and 1084 (71.3%) were completed. NTNP consults were scheduled (10.1 vs 29.0 days, p < 0.001) and completed (44.0 vs 96.9 days, p < 0.001) significantly faster than CCN consults. Post-implementation, monthly CCN consult volume was unchanged at NTNP sites compared to pre-implementation (mean change of 4.6 consults per month, [95% CI − 4.3, 13.6]), but control sites had a significant increase (mean change of 24.4 [5.2, 43.7]). The estimated difference in mean change in CCN consults between NTNP and control sites persisted after adjusting for local neurology availability (p < 0.001). Veterans (N = 259) were highly satisfied with NTNP care (mean (SD) overall satisfaction score 6.3 (1.2) on a 7-point Likert scale). Conclusions Implementation of NTNP resulted in more timely neurologic care than care in the community. The observed significant increase in monthly CCN consults at non-participating sites during the post-implementation period was not seen at NTNP sites. Veterans were highly satisfied with Teleneurology care.

Please tell us briefly why you are seeking this position.

I’m tired of leaders who talk more than they act. Our district and our country deserve a representative who is committed to solving real problems with practical, data-driven solutions. I believe in transparency, accountability, and using technology to make government work better for everyone. It’s time for a fresh approach that moves beyond the old political games and focuses on delivering results that actually make a difference in people’s lives.

What are your three main priorities as a candidate?

1. Transparency & Accountability: Implement real-time campaign contributions and government spending disclosure to restore trust in our political system.

2. Technological Innovation: Modernize government systems to improve efficiency, cybersecurity, and public access to services, ensuring our government works smarter and more effectively.

3. Environmental Protection: Advocate for robust policies that protect our natural resources and address the urgent challenges of climate change, ensuring a sustainable future for all.

Antibiotics Availability for Animal Health & Vet Shortage

The FDA has recently moved several important over-the-counter livestock medicines to prescription (Rx) status. This will require livestock managers to first get a veterinarian’s prescription before treating sick animals, an issue in areas with vet shortages. How would you recommend tackling the nationwide veterinarian shortage and the limited access to pharmaceuticals?

1. Expand Veterinary Education & Training: Increase funding for veterinary schools and create incentives, such as scholarships and loan forgiveness programs, for students who commit to working in underserved rural areas. This will help address the shortage by encouraging more students to pursue careers in veterinary medicine and practice in areas where they are most needed.

2. Telemedicine & Mobile Veterinary Services: Promote and support the use of telemedicine for veterinary care, allowing vets to diagnose and prescribe treatments remotely. Additionally, incentivize mobile veterinary services that can travel to rural and underserved areas, providing on-the-ground care and prescriptions where access is limited.

3. Pharmacy Access Flexibility: Advocate for policies that allow certain trained and certified livestock managers to access critical over-the-counter medications without a prescription, especially in areas facing acute vet shortages. This could include a certification process for livestock managers to ensure they have the knowledge to use these medications safely and appropriately, balancing the need for access with the importance of responsible antibiotic use.

Agriculture Labor Reform (AEWR-specific)

Farmers are struggling to find domestic workers who are willing and able to provide the labor required by the agriculture industry. This issue is compounded by the rapidly increasing regulatory burdens and cost increases facing the H-2A program. How do you propose to help address the critical labor shortage facing agriculture?

1. Reform and Streamline the H-2A Program: Simplify and streamline the H-2A program to reduce regulatory burdens and costs for farmers while ensuring that workers are treated fairly. This could include modernizing the application process, reducing bureaucratic red tape, and providing more flexibility in how and when workers can be hired to meet seasonal demands.
2. Incentivize Domestic Agricultural Labor: Develop programs that encourage domestic workers to take up agricultural jobs, such as offering tax incentives, wage subsidies, or other benefits for workers willing to engage in agricultural labor. This could also include targeted training programs to equip domestic workers with the skills needed for modern agricultural work.
3. Adjust the Adverse Effect Wage Rate (AEWR): Work with stakeholders (NOT CORPORATE FARMS) to review and potentially adjust the AEWR to better reflect regional economic conditions and the specific needs of the agricultural industry. This would help ensure that wages are competitive, attracting more workers while keeping costs manageable for farmers.
4. Promote Automation & Innovation: Invest in research and development for agricultural technology that can help alleviate labor shortages by automating certain tasks. This would reduce the dependency on manual labor while maintaining or increasing productivity.
   

Tax Reform

Do you think the current federal income and estate tax systems are fair and equitable to family farmers? Does the tax code encourage success, savings, investment, and entrepreneurship? Are there ways you would improve the current tax code to preserve farmland and encourage the next generation of farmers?

The current federal income and estate tax systems place significant burdens on family farmers, making it challenging for them to thrive or pass their farms on to the next generation. The tax code, as it stands, often benefits large corporate interests that are buying up family farms, undermining the legacy and sustainability of family-owned agriculture.

Having grown up with a family pecan farm in Louisiana, I understand firsthand the struggles family farmers face. My grandfather’s stories of the agricultural collapse in the 1980s remind me how crucial it is to protect these vital businesses. The tax code should encourage success, savings, and entrepreneurship, but instead, it often penalizes small family farms.

To preserve farmland and encourage the next generation of farmers, I would advocate for reforms that:

1. Increase Estate Tax Exemptions for Family Farms: Adjust the estate tax to ensure that family farms can be passed down without crippling tax burdens. This would help keep farms in the family rather than forcing sales to large corporate entities.
2. Create Incentives for Family-to-Family Farm Sales: Develop tax incentives for family farms to sell to other family-run operations rather than to corporate interests, preserving the tradition of family-owned agriculture.
3. Implement Tax Credits for Young Farmers: Introduce tax credits for young or new farmers to encourage them to enter the industry and maintain the agricultural legacy.
4. Limit Corporate Farm Expansion: Consider tax penalties or regulations that discourage large corporations from monopolizing farmland, ensuring that small, family-owned farms have a fair chance to compete and succeed.

Science-Based Decision Making

In recent years we have seen a multitude of challenges, not always rooted in science, to farmers’ ability to use EPA approved pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and other crop protectants. These are critical tools for farmers to produce the safest, most abundant, and affordable food supply in the world, and implement conservation practices. Do you support science-based decision making when deciding which products should be available to farmers?

As a Senior Data Engineer, I understand the importance of data-driven decisions, and I believe that both the EPA and pesticide companies need to significantly improve their transparency and the availability of open data.

I remember attending a pecan meeting with my grandfather, Ben Littlepage, where a chemist discussed how they tested Roundup on pecan trees and found no pesticide residue in the nuts. But where is that data today? Such transparency is critical for farmers to make informed decisions. My grandfather also developed an incredibly accurate pecan crop prediction model, but when he passed, much of that knowledge was lost, and crop yields haven’t been predicted as accurately since.

We need more accessible, high-quality data that any farmer can use without needing to be a data scientist. This data should be open and transparent, allowing farmers to make the best decisions for their crops and the environment. Moreover, we must stop attacking innovative companies, like DJI, which provide agricultural drones that help family farms reduce costs and improve efficiency.

Innovation and practical, science-based solutions are key to ensuring that our farmers can produce safe, abundant, and affordable food while also implementing effective conservation practices.

Farm Bill/Farm Policy

We are currently operating on an extension of the 2018 Farm Bill, and, as of this writing, neither chamber of Congress has passed a new 5-year farm bill for consideration. What were the most important aspects of the most recent farm bill that you believe helped Virginia farmers? What would you like to see included in the next farm bill?

The 2018 Farm Bill provided crucial support to Virginia farmers through various programs that promoted conservation, crop insurance, and rural development.

1. Conservation Programs: The bill strengthened programs like the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), which help Virginia farmers implement conservation practices that protect the environment while maintaining productivity.
2. Crop Insurance: The continuation and expansion of crop insurance programs provided a safety net for farmers facing unpredictable weather and market conditions. This is particularly important in Virginia, where diverse agricultural production can be vulnerable to environmental changes.
3. Support for Local and Organic Farming: The 2018 Farm Bill increased funding for local food systems and organic farming, supporting Virginia’s small and specialty crop producers, who are vital to the state’s agricultural diversity.

For the next farm bill, I’d like to see:

1. Expanded Access to Technology and Innovation: Increasing support for programs that help farmers adopt new technologies, such as precision agriculture and agricultural drones, which can increase efficiency and reduce costs.
2. Strengthened Support for Family Farms: Policies that provide more robust support for family-owned farms, including easier access to credit, technical assistance, and programs that help these farms stay competitive against large corporate interests.
3. Improved Data Transparency and Access: Mandating better transparency and access to data from both government and private sources. Farmers should have access to reliable, user-friendly data that helps them make informed decisions without needing to be data scientists.
4. Climate Resilience: Expanding programs that help farmers adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change, ensuring that they can continue to produce food sustainably in the face of increasing environmental challenges.

The next farm bill should focus on equipping Virginia farmers with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly changing agricultural landscape, ensuring their continued success and contribution to the commonwealth’s economy.

Virginia has some of the most lax campaign finance laws in the nation and it doesn't look like that is changing anytime soon. Candidates can accept unlimited contributions from individuals and companies, making it crucial for the public to have easy access to this information. Unfortunately, the official Virginia election website makes it difficult to obtain and monitor these reports, often requiring tedious, manual downloads.

Our Solution

Although my campaign isn't regulated by Virginia's finance laws, after a call with Activate Virginia, we decided to take action. Show Me Virginia's Money is a tool that scrapes financial report data from the Virginia election website every night and saves it to GitHub. This ensures that the public has access to comprehensive, up-to-date financial reports. Additionally, it tracks changes to the data so the public can see when reports change or are modified.
